Virginia Housing is the new name for the Virginia Housing Development Authority. The change reflects the evolution of the organization as it prepares for its 50th anniversary in 2022, according to agency leaders.

“Our shorter name, Virginia Housing, and our refreshed logo more clearly identify who we are and what we do,” says Susan Dewey, CEO, Virginia Housing. “We began this branding refresh in 2019 and decided to make it official.

“As a result of the pandemic and all of the necessary changes that have affected every aspect of life, our work across so many communities throughout Virginia is more important than ever,” adds Dewey. “The impact of COVID-19 has made it clear to everyone the importance of stable, affordable housing. Staying at home doesn’t improve the safety of our families who don’t have a safe home to begin with, and that’s where Virginia Housing and our partners will keep working to make a difference.”

Virginia Housing was created in 1972 by the General Assembly to help Virginians attain quality, affordable housing. Its work includes administering the Housing Choice Voucher and the housing tax credit programs as well as providing mortgages for first-time home buyers in Virginia.
