The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) governing board has named Bobby Wilkinson as executive director of the agency, effective Aug. 15.
“We are especially pleased that Bobby has agreed to take on this leadership role for the agency,” said TDHCA board chair J.B. Goodwin. “He comes to us with much experience in understanding the complex policies in which the agency operates. Bobby is eminently well-qualified to advance the agency in its work to help the vulnerable households within our state.”
Wilkinson has served as an adviser to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on housing policy since 2015. He also filled various other roles in the Abbott administration’s Budget and Policy Division, most recently as deputy budget director. Wilkinson has a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
“I’m honored to have this opportunity to continue serving the state of Texas in this new role as executive director of such a superb agency,” Wilkinson said.
TDHCA is the state agency responsible for affordable housing, community, and energy assistance programs, as well as colonia activities. It administers $2 billion through for-profit, nonprofit, and local government partnerships to deliver local housing and community-based opportunities and assistance to Texans in need. The overwhelming majority of the department's resources are derived from mortgage revenue bond financing and refinancing, federal grants, and federal tax credits.
