Carr Hagan, president of LHP Development in Knoxville, Tenn., died peacefully but unexpectedly Jan. 29. He was 49.

“Carr was a brilliant developer, an outstanding person, and a very special member of the LHP family,” said Phil Lawson, chairman of LHP Capital. “We will miss him greatly.”

As president of LHP Development, Hagan was responsible for overseeing affordable multifamily acquisition and development-related activities for the company.

Prior to assuming the role of president, he was senior vice president and director of development for Lawler Wood Housing Partners, which became LHP in 2015. Having been with the company since 2002, Hagan was instrumental in the firm’s growth and led the development activities that accumulated more than 13,400 units of multifamily holdings in 13 states with development costs totaling more than $1.1 billion.

Hagan began his career in the affordable housing field as a vice president of First Tennessee Housing Corp. He served on the board of directors of the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA), was a member of the Tennessee Developer’s Council, and was a sought-out speaker at NH&RA and other housing forums. He was a previous board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee, where he also served as board president.

Hagan earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis.

A service for the celebration of the life of Hagan, will be held Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 6500 Northshore Dr., Knoxville, Tenn., 37919.
