KeyBank Assembles Team for National Expansion

KeyBank’s Community Development Lending and Investment segment announced the assembly of six senior-level leaders who will drive the expansion of Key’s affordable housing platform from 12 to 50 states. Leading a team of more than 50 professionals, they plan to double the size of the business in the next three years. They will work under Robert Likes, who was named national manager of the community development lending segment in June.

John Gilmore IV, based in Manhattan, will lead growth in the eastern U.S.; Kelly Frank, based in Cleveland, will lead growth in the central U.S.; and Irene Edwards, based in Salt Lake City, will lead growth in the western U.S. Cathy Danigelis and Greg Kiger will remain focused on Key’s 12-state footprint, with Danigelis managing the western region from Seattle, Wash., and Kiger managing the Great Lakes and eastern region from Key’s Columbus, Ohio office. Kevin Nowak remains national equity investment manager for Key Community Development Corp., based in Cleveland. Key anticipates adding additional professionals in the next 12 months.

The team will build broad-based banking relationships with the country’s top affordable housing property owner-operators and developers seeking to build, acquire, and preserve affordable housing. Banking solutions will include construction, acquisition, bridge-to-re-syndication, and preservation loans, as well as lines of credit, agency and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) permanent mortgage executions, and equity investments for low-income housing projects, especially low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) financing.

Nicole Salmieri has been named senior director of marketing of WinnResidential. Prior to joining the company, she had been vice president of strategic performance and marketing for Concord Management in Orlando, Fla., with a portfolio of more than 32,000 units throughout the Southeast and central United States, focusing on tax credit and conventional market-rate operations.

Julie Fawcett has joined the company as director of compliance. She will be working closely with the compliance team to support WinnResidential’s continued growth. Fawcett has 24 years of affordable housing experience. She most recently spent five years as a senior compliance manager with National Housing Compliance in Atlanta.

Charlene Love has been hired as director of corporate marketing and business development for WinnCompanies. She will work with executives to create and manage marketing and branding tools for the company. Love had a 20-year career in television news in Miami and Boston, mostly with WHDH-TV. She is a four-time Emmy Award-winning editor and producer. She also received an Edward R. Murrow award and several Telly Awards for her work with investigative and entertainment journalists, respectively.

NCR Names Atlanta Project Leader

Derrick A. Jordan has joined National Church Residences (NCR) as the senior project leader in Atlanta after more than a decade serving in various leadership roles within the Atlanta Department of Planning and Community Development.

In his new role, Jordan will focus on the construction and rehabilitation of affordable senior housing developments as well as permanent supportive housing for veterans and formerly homeless individuals. He will also work to expand and strengthen NCR’s community relationships, health-care partnerships, and philanthropic efforts. He will focus his efforts in Fulton and DeKalb counties.

In December 2011, Jordan was named the director of the Office of Housing for the city of Atlanta, where he was responsible for the day-to-day supervision of 17 professional staff in the implementation of activities for affordable housing and economic development projects.

NCR owns over 1,200 units in seven facilities in the Atlanta metro area.

NEF Announces VP and General Counsel

Jason Aldridge has been hired as vice president of originations at the National Equity Fund (NEF). He is based in Dallas and will focus on deals in the southern part of the country.

Most recently, Aldridge served as relationship manager with Wells Fargo Bank in Dallas, where he was responsible for the origination, underwriting, and closing of multifamily projects with a focus on LIHTC properties in California, Colorado, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Texas. Prior to that, he was a developer associate with White Rock Commercial in Dallas, an assistant project manager with St. Joe Co. in Panama City Beach, Fla., and a project developer at AIG Baker in Birmingham, Ala.

Michael G. Rogers has been named general counsel. He returns to NEF after having served as associate general counsel for four years before leaving in 2007.

Most recently, Rogers worked as senior counsel with Holland & Knight, representing investors and syndicators in LIHTC and New Markets Tax Credit transactions. Prior to that, he was a staff attorney with Sidley Austin, also working on LIHTC deals. He has also held positions at Brent Kugman & Associates, FINOVA Capital Corp., Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., and Greenberger, Krauss & Jacobs, all providing him with 28 years of experience as an attorney and more than 12 years with affordable housing programs.

APAH Hires Key Staff

The Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) has announced two new senior staff members.

Peter Engel has been named vice president of real estate development, and Cheryl Ramp has become director of community resources and relations.

Engel will lead APAH’s real estate development team and is responsible for implementing the organization’s strategic goal of growing its real estate portfolio by at least 600 units in the next three years. He brings more than 20 years of affordable housing and community development experience to this position, particularly in data-driven initiatives and creative financing across a wide range of communities. Prior to joining APAH, Engel served as deputy commissioner for project finance and development for the Housing Authority of Baltimore City and the Baltimore Department of Housing and Community Development. He is a founding board member of both the Baltimore Regional Housing Partnership and the Columbia Downtown Housing Corp.

Ramp is responsible for raising funds through grants, individual contributions, and special events for building awareness and support for APAH and its mission in the community. Prior to this position, Ramp served as executive vice president and COO of the Stimson Center, a leading nonpartisan policy institute. She brings more than 25 years of experience in donor relationships, expanding and diversifying revenue streams, strategic communications, and program management.

APAH is a nonprofit that develops, preserves, owns, and advocates quality rental housing that is affordable to low and moderate-income families. APAH works exclusively in Arlington County, Va.

CHPC Names Policy Chief

Wayne Waite has joined the California Housing Partnership Corp. as policy director to lead the organization’s energy-efficiency and solar-renewable energy work.

He recently served as vice president for public policy at Everyday Energy, where he led several initiatives, including the development and signing into law this summer of the groundbreaking Multifamily Affordable Solar Roofs Program. The new program makes available $1 billion annually for 10 years in cap-and-trade funding for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems principally to benefit low-income tenants.

Waite is a HUD veteran. He served as manager of the agency's regional energy and climate operations and functioned as a technical expert for energy issues. At HUD, where he was a leader on energy issues for most of his 35 years, Waite worked with colleagues at the Federal Department of Energy to improve the federal Weatherization Assistance Program and to create specific guidelines for serving larger multifamily rental properties.

NYC Housing Partnership Names CFO

Marie C. Iammatteo has joined the NYC Housing Partnership as CFO, a new position.

The nonprofit serves as an intermediary for the development of affordable workforce housing in New York City. It assists in the development, promotion, and revitalization of affordable homeownership and rental housing through an array of specialized programs and services.

Iammatteo joins the Housing Partnership from Hope Community, an East Harlem-based nonprofit affordable housing organization, where she served as CFO. Prior to that, she had been vice president of finance at the Swerdlow Real Estate Group, a private Florida-based company involved in a broad range of development, management, leasing, and ownership activities.

Industry Veteran Joins WNC Board

Howard M. Heitner, a 35-year veteran of the affordable housing, legal, and financial industries, has joined the WNC’s advisory board. 

Heitner began his career in 1976 with the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. He has also served as president and member of the investment committee of JRK Residential America; COO of SunAmerica Affordable Housing Partners; and spent nearly two decades as a partner with O’Melveny & Myers.

WNC is a national investor in real estate and community development initiatives.

OFN Recognizes Loza

Moises Loza, executive director of Housing Assistance Council, received the 2015 Ned Gramlich Award for Responsible Finance from the Opportunity Finance Network (OFN).

Each year, OFN presents the award to one person of distinction within the opportunity finance field with a lifetime of action and results in low-income, disadvantaged communities across the U.S. 

Loza is a longtime advocate of justice and social equality with extensive experience serving populations with a high need for affordable housing in regions such as Indian country, the Mississippi Delta, the Southwest border Colonias, and Appalachia. 

His family’s history as migrant farmworkers in Texas’ Colonias serves as a backdrop for a career dedicated to providing housing solutions to low-income families and individuals, particularly rural communities.
