Developed by Heartland Housing and Center on Halstead, Town Hall Apartments in Chicago is one of the first affordable housing communities built with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender seniors in mind. The 79-unit development combines new construction with the reuse of a historic police station.
The $23.7 million project has improved the immediate social fabric of the neighborhood by anchoring the mixed-use block with an attractive residential building and first-floor retail as well as adding an expanded senior center operated by Center on Halsted.
Town Hall Apartments features 49 one-bedroom and 30 studio apartments. All units have project-based rental vouchers. Residents enjoy the many conveniences of the vibrant Lakeview neighborhood, including easy access to grocery stores and other retail businesses, public transit, and Lake Michigan.
