Province Landing in Provincetown, Mass., provides 50 units of affordable housing for mixed-income households.
Province Landing received over 450 applications for its 50 apartments. More than a hundred people attended the lottery to live at Province Landing in person.
The median price of a single-family home in Provincetown is over $750,000, but the median income for year-round residents is less than $44,000 a year.
“The population of Provincetown is very active and very connected to each other, even the summertime, second-homeowner crowd,” says Michael Lozano, project manager for The Community Builders, developer of Province Landing.
Other Massachusetts resort towns are are also encouraging affordable housing. "Provincetown was a trailblazer. It set an example that other towns like it are following," says Lozano.
