Built in 1962, the original Fay Apartments offered 1,052 units. The density at the new Villages at Roll Hill has been reduced to 703 units.
The property had operated for decades without any major investment.
Wallick-Hendy Development Co. calls its project the nation’s largest green renovation of affordable housing. The work includes installing new energy-efficient building systems and adding green space.
New 20-year project-based Sec. 8 contracts were obtained for all 703 units.
The development features an on-site food pantry to assist residents. In addition, there is a free summer lunch program for school-age children.
