Opening in June 2015, the first phase of Orchards at Orenco in Hillsboro, Ore., became the largest certified multifamily Passive House building in North America, receiving PHIUS Passive building certification from Passive House Institute US.

The development features 40 one-bedroom and 17 two-bedroom units for households earning at or less than 50% of the area median income (AMI). Eight of the units have project-based Department of Housing and Urban Development Sec. 8 vouchers and are targeted to households earning 30% or less of the AMI.

The transit-oriented development helps lower residents' expenses. REACH Community Development installed the ImagineEnergy tracking system, an energy monitoring system that tracks and improves upon residents' energy usage habits.

REACH also provides a series of programs to aid residents. The developer partnered with Worksystems' Aligned Partner Network to provide workforce services and career coaching for residents of Orchards at Orenco.
