Clinton, Ind.
Indianapolis-based developer Herman & Kittle Properties teamed with local nonprofit Little Italy Festival Town to redevelop two blighted sites in Clinton, Ind., into 60 units of housing for low-income families.
Meadow Park Apartments includes the adaptive reuse of an abandoned garment factory almost 100 years old. The city of Clinton cleared out the building, and then Herman & Kittle did a gut rehab.
The building is now known as Meadow Park Flats and includes 14 units.
About five miles away, Herman & Kittle Properties demolished the former Kenly Plastics building to create Meadow Park Villas, 46 units of affordable housing, on the site.
Herman & Kittle Properties installed a rooftop photovoltaic system on Meadow Park Flats to capture solar energy for use in the common areas. All the buildings are LEED Silver certified.
