Marcus Garvey Apartments is the preservation of a Mitchell-Lama property that spans 10 blocks in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn.
The developer installed one of the largest solar-power arrays at an affordable housing property in the state and teamed with Con Edison to install battery and fuel cell systems.
Developers utilized the federal Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program, which provided 20 additional years of project-based Sec. 8 vouchers for over 85% of the units. Most of the remaining apartments serve residents with tenant-based vouchers.
The $189 million project included renovating apartments, installing new building systems and lighting, upgrading security, and replacing open areas with new landscaping.
