Heritage Woods of Freeport, located in rural Stephenson County, Ill., was designed to provide seniors in the area with an affordable alternative to nursing-home care.
The nearest large city to Freeport is Rockport, Ill., about 35 miles away. Prior to the development of Heritage Woods, many local seniors didn’t have access to affordable services and support.
Individual units are equipped with an emergency-call response system, and the community is staffed 24 hours a day, enabling residents to live independently.
The community offers health-care monitoring, housekeeping, and medication-reminder and setup services. As of March, about 64 percent of the occupants were Medicaid eligible.
