Brownstone Affordable Housing has turned a blighted building into 30 affordable apartments in Tallulah, La.
A new vertical sign marks the site of the building’s old theater. The original theater doors remain on the building.
Developers found the original drawings to re-create many of the building's features, including window designs and awning overhangs. In addition, the $6.8 million development has a suite of green features, including high-efficiency air conditioners and a reflective flat roof.
Many believe the building is the first indoor mall in the nation. The main arcade included shops behind storefront glass windows, and after the restoration the main arcade still looks like you could walk into shops just like back in the 1920s.
