Step Up on Second and Hollywood Community Housing Corp. have retrofitted a three-story hotel into a 34-unit permanent supportive housing project for chronically homeless adults with mental health issues.
Step Up on Vine has earned LEED-Platinum certification. It has a solar hot water system and dual-paned exterior windows to reduce the heat gain and minimize loss of interior cooling.
The roof of the structure features an edible aeroponic garden and outdoor seating.
The rooftop photovoltaic array provides approximately 19,000 kWh of electricity annually.
The ground floor features retail and community spaces, including a computer lab, a cafe, and a commercial kitchen for residents.
