Developed by National Church Residences, Commons at Garden Lake provides critical housing for formerly homeless veterans in Toledo, Ohio. It is located a short walk from the new VA Toledo Community-Based Outpatient Clinic.
The 75-unit permanent supportive housing development is the first community to use project-based VASH contracts in Ohio. All units are covered under a project-based housing choice voucher contract, with 35% being project-based VASH.
Recognizing that many residents will likely have medical needs, National Church Residences has now added access to primary care on site in addition to the case management services that have historically been provided. It has partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide offices for various services at the new building, which recently received the LEED for Homes Gold status.
Commons at Garden Lake provides 24-hour reception desk services, on-site case management support provided by licensed social workers, integrated on-site behavioral and medical health care, vocational services, and social and educational activities aimed at helping veterans improve the quality of their lives and remain stably housed.
