When asked about the future of the national affordable housing trust fund, almost half of Housing Finance Online survey respondents—47.6%—said they believe the program will become a reality. However, 28.6% disagreed, with one respondent noting the fund won’t be established and funded because of “budget cuts and the movement toward private-sector financing of housing.” The remaining respondents were still on the fence.
Respondents are mixed regarding the timeframe that the trust fund would be available for owners and developers to access for the production of affordable housing, with 23.1% predicting 2012, 30.8% predicting 2013, and 46.2% predicting 2014 and beyond.
