Carol Galante has been nominated by President Obama to lead the Federal Housing Administration (FHA).
The move comes after she has been serving as acting FHA commissioner and assistant secretary for housing since this summer.
A former affordable housing developer, Galante has been with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) since 2009 when she became deputy assistant secretary for multifamily housing programs.
In July, she replaced Robert C. Ryan as acting FHA commissioner. Ryan had been filling in since David Stevens left the post to join the Mortgage Bankers Association.
Galante’s nomination was sent to the Senate last week. Prior to joining HUD, she was president and CEO of BRIDGE Housing Corp., the largest nonprofit affordable housing developer in California.
