The National Leased Housing Association (NLHA) Education Fund has announced that it is seeking applications for the 2015 round of its scholarship program for residents of federally assisted rental housing.

The fund is made possible through tax-deductible donations from affordable housing providers, lenders, and brokers, with significant assistance from AIMCO through its AIMCO Cares charity.

Individuals living in federally assisted housing or Sec. 8 voucher recipients are eligible to apply for the scholarships. In the 2014 round, the Education Fund awarded 61 scholarships.

Individuals may only apply under one of the following categories:

  • The AIMCO Cares Scholarship: Funds to assist college freshmen or returning undergraduates;
  • The Bill Gandert Memorial Scholarship: Funds for graduating high school seniors interested in studying a specific trade;
  • The Mary Lou Manzie Memorial Scholarship: Assistance for nontraditional students in pursuing higher education or training; and
  • The Neil Churchill Memorial Scholarship: Funds for eligible applicants who are seeking to complete graduate level coursework.

All applicants must apply electronically through NLHA’s website at http://www.hudnlha.com/education_fund/index.asp or directly at https://nlhascholars.communityforce.com. Applications are due by March 25; the awards are expected to be announced in June.
