Several housing-related bills have been introduced recently in the House of Representatives, including legislation aimed at boosting the Sec. 811 program.

Introduced by Rep. Christopher Murphy (D-Conn.), H.R. 1675 aims to establish a Sec. 811 demonstration program to expand the supply of supportive housing for individuals with disabilities. The bill, known as the Frank Melville Supportive Housing Investment Act of 2009, also seeks to expand the existing Sec. 811 program through capital advances and project rental assistance.

Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas) introduced H.R. 1707, which seeks to establish a demonstration program that would award grants to eligible entities to develop an ”autism navigator program” to create more housing and services for people with autism.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) introduced a bill that aims to protect renters of foreclosed properties. H.R. 1247 would provide tenants with a 90-day notice prior to eviction. The coverage extends to tenants who receive Sec. 8 assistance.
