KANSAS CITY, MO.?A school that has long been closed here will be converted into affordable housing with the help of actor Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation.

The $14 million project calls for turning the 103-year-old Bancroft School into 29 apartments and a community center. A new building with 21 more apartments is also planned.

The project recently received a $705,000 reservation of federal low-income housing tax credits and $700,000 in state tax credits from the Missouri Housing Development Commission.

Make It Right has been active in helping redevelop New Orleans’ Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina. The Bancroft school project is only the group’s second outside of New Orleans, according to local news reports.

Dalmark Development Group in Lee’s Summit, Mo., is spearheading the project.
