Matthew Finkle has been named president of Related Affordable, a leading affordable housing developer and owner.

He joined Related in 2003, and during his tenure he has played a critical role in the acquisition and preservation of more than 9,000 affordable housing units, comprising nearly $900 million in total development costs. Related Affordable has acquired and preserved tens of thousands of affordable housing units and expanded its operations nationwide.

Finkle’s appointment was announced by Related Cos. President Bruce Beal Jr. “Matthew’s depth of experience at both the transactional and strategic levels will help Related Affordable to continue to grow its core acquisitions business and also enable the company to expand into new markets, segments, and platforms,” Beal said in a statement.

Finkle takes over the top post from Mark Carbone.

The company said that the division has seen much growth over the past several years and has identified key areas for increased expansion. “Therefore Mark Carbone will take on the responsibility of continuing to focus on the legacy assets while Matthew will be primarily responsible for the pursuit of new opportunities and new segments,” the firm said.

In the area of acquisitions and refinancing, Related Affordable pursues Sec. 8 developments with project-based contracts, Sec. 236 properties in need of rehabilitation, and low-income housing tax credit properties with expiring low-income restrictions.
