WCDA Appoints Executive Director

Scott Hoversland has been appointed executive director of the Wyoming Community Development Authority (WCDA). He will step into the top post upon the retirement of David Haney later this year.

For the past 10 years, Hoversland has served as director of finance and administration at WCDA.  He began his career with the Montana Legislative Auditor’s Office as a financial-compliance auditor.  In 2001, Hoversland took on the role of accounting and finance manager for the Montana Board of Housing. He and his family relocated to Casper, Wyo., in 2005, when he joined WCDA.

Haney is retiring in December after eight years with the WCDA.  Hoversland will be just the fourth executive director to serve the authority in the past 40 years.

VOA Announces Promotions

Through a reorganization of the housing programs at Volunteers of America, Patrick Sheridan, formerly senior vice president, housing development, has been promoted to the position of executive vice president, housing.

Other promotions include Peter Desjardins to vice president, asset management; Donna Thurmond to vice president, resident services; and Jack Jones, to vice president, housing services and training. All are based in Alexandria, Va. 

VOA announced earlier that MJ Gravel has been appointed development director for California, working out of the Volunteers of America Greater Los Angeles office.

USA Properties Fund Names Principal

Darren Bobrowsky has been promoted to senior vice president of finance and principal of USA Properties Fund, one of the largest affordable housing developers and owners in the West.

Bobrowsky joined the firm as director of finance in 2010. The Roseville, Calif.-based company has added more than 17 communities and approximately 2,000 units during the past five years.

“We’ve enjoyed tremendous growth in recent years, and Darren has definitely played a major role in those efforts,” said Geoff Brown, president. “As a senior executive and principal, he will help develop the vision and lead USA Properties.”

The company has announced several new communities, including the development of market-rate properties.

Hunt Mortgage Makes Key

Jon Trauben has been hired as a senior managing director at Hunt Mortgage Group. He will focus on expanding the firm’s capital markets activities and its overall commercial lending business. 

Trauben joins Hunt from Barclays, where he was a managing director and held several positions, including head of large loan origination and head of subordinate debt origination and distribution.

In another move, Mark Besharaty has joined Hunt as vice president in the small loan group. In this role, he will source and originate Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae small loans for clients in the Western region. Besharaty will be based in the firm’s Irvine, Calif., office

Besharaty comes to Hunt Mortgage Group from MUFG Union Bank, where he served as vice president in the commercial mortgage operations division. 

Attorney Joins Ballard Spahr

Veteran real estate attorney Laura B. Redstone has joined Ballard Spahr as "of counsel" in the firm’s Denver office.

She handles all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including drafting and negotiation of retail, office, and ground leases. She also handles purchase and sale contracts, title insurance matters, construction contracts, easements, and documentation for the creation of condominium and common-interest communities.

Redstone has handled complex transactions involving a variety of property types, from retail, office, and industrial to multifamily residential and single-family residential developments.

Redstone rejoins the firm from Kirschenbaum Jansen in Boulder. She was an associate in the Ballard Spahr real estate department from 1998 to 2004.
