Woda Cooper Cos. Announces SVP

Tommy Lowmon has joined Woda Cooper Cos. as senior vice president. He will help lead the company’s affordable housing development efforts in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Lowmon recently served as director of housing policy for Sugar Creek Capital. Earlier, he was division director of housing finance and development at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

His deep experience includes serving as the lead economic development in various communities, including his hometown of Blackshear, Georgia, where he helped the community earn recognition for its work in improving downtown business, cultural, and service opportunities.

Woda Cooper has operations in 18 states, with a portfolio of approximately 365 communities and 18,000 units.

J.P. Morgan Names Division Manager

J.P. Morgan has promoted Sharmi Sobhan to division manager for the East region of its  Community Development Banking division. She will oversee the delivery of affordable housing banking products to clients across the East Coast, including Atlanta, Boston, Florida, New York, and Washington, D.C.

With two decades of experience at the company, Sobhan has been instrumental in structuring and financing nearly $3 billion in affordable housing transactions during her tenure at CDB.

Based in New York, she is active in the community and sits on the boards of Women in Housing and Finance, Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corp., and the New York Housing Conference.

WHEDA Appoints Deputy Director

Leana Nakielski Mesdjian has been named deputy executive director of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA).

Selected by Gov. Tony Evers, she has been a consultant and speaker, providing professional services to nonprofit clients in fund development, strategic planning, and program management. Nakielski Mesdjian was formerly a community and social impact director with American Family Insurance, leading the Milwaukee area’s community investment and operations expansion.

She has also held various leadership roles in the nonprofit sector, from the first director of development with the Greater Milwaukee Committee to the director of operations with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin.

Capital One Adds to CRE Team

Justin Shackleford has joined Capital One’s commercial real estate team as the senior vice president of agency originations. His responsibilities include bolstering Capital One’s direct agency origination coverage and capitalizing on the synergies between the agency and balance sheet teams.

Prior to joining Capital One, Shackleford worked for Wells Fargo Multifamily Capital, where he served as a managing director and was responsible for both relationship management and debt products origination through agency, Federal Housing Administration, and balance sheet executions. He has been nationally recognized as a top affordable housing debt originator.

Dettlaff Appointed to Lead NDHFA

Brandon Dettlaff has been named executive director of the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA).

Dettlaff began his career with the agency in 2007 and has held several positions, moving into the role of homeownership director in May 2020. The homeownership division helps North Dakotans, primarily first-time buyers, become successful homeowners by offering home buyer education, downpayment and closing cost assistance, and affordable mortgage loans.

Dettlaff takes over the top post following the retirement of Dave Flohr, who served 41 years at NDHFA and as executive director since 2020.
