Candeur Group Adds to Team

Greg Maul has become director of underwriting at Candeur Group, an investment banking firm that provides consulting and investment services to the affordable housing industry.

Maul brings 15 years of affordable housing experience to the company. Prior to joining Candeur, he held positions at a national syndication company, several affordable housing development firms, and the Committee on Financial Services of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Great Lakes Names Regional VP

Christopher Laurent has been hired as regional vice president of the Wisconsin market for Great Lakes Capital Fund. He replaces Keith Broadnax, who has relocated to Indianapolis to oversee business origination in Indiana.

Laurent previously directed the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) and multifamily bond programs at the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority. He has also worked for several regional affordable and market-rate housing developers. During his 20-year career, he has been involved in the creation of nearly half a billion dollars of real estate development. He has been appointed by the mayors of Milwaukee and Madison to serve on housing and economic development committees and was president of Madison-based Porchlight, a leading provider of shelter and services to the homeless.

Great Lakes also welcomes Chris Jillings to its Madison office as asset manager. Jillings will assist development partners with construction and lease-up activities throughout the firm’s Upper Midwest footprint.

Great Lakes is a full-service community development finance institution and LIHTC syndicator.

Boston Financial Adds Directors

Peter Canny and Mark Matasic have become directors of environmental and construction risk management at Boston Financial Investment Management.

Canny joins after consulting in the company’s Environmental and Risk Management Group. He has extensive background in many areas of commercial real estate, including architectural design, construction oversight, asset management, and development project management. Most recently, he provided project management services for several transportation-oriented developments through his company Real Estate Perspectives. He is a registered architect in Massachusetts.

Matasic comes to Boston Financial from RBC Capital Markets—Tax Credit Equity Group, where he served as development risk manager and construction asset manager. During his tenure at RBC, he managed more than $300 million worth of LIHTC investments from development through stabilization. In his new role, Matasic will be evaluating environmental and construction risk and monitoring construction activity.

Boston Financial has syndicated more than $10.6 billion in tax credit equity and invested in more than 2,500 properties in 48 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Bellwether Enterprise Hires SVP in California

Doug Taylor has been named senior vice president at Bellwether Enterprise, the commercial and multifamily mortgage banking subsidiary of Enterprise Community Investment. He will be based in the firm’s Western regional office in Irvine, Calif.

Taylor will be involved in the origination of multifamily and commercial real estate debt financing throughout the United States.

Prior to joining Bellwether Enterprise, he was senior vice president for Capital One Multifamily Finance. Taylor was also senior vice president at Walker & Dunlop.

Pennrose Management Announces Promotions

Pennrose Management Co. has promoted John DeSantis to vice president of information technology and Eileen Robinson to director of accounting and finance.

DeSantis joined the firm in 2011. Through his vision and leadership of his team of IT and Yardi experts, he has helped Pennrose become an industry leader.

Robinson joined Pennrose in April 2013 as assistant controller and quickly distinguished herself by meeting all challenges and providing meaningful financial analysis essential to the decision making process that will enable the company to continue to grow and succeed.

The promotions of DeSantis and Robinson follow several other promotions within the Pennrose executive team that were made in 2014 to positions that were either newly created, the result of another employee’s promotion, or were vacancies inherited by Lee Felgar when he took the helm at Pennrose Management. last year. These promotions included: Cristi Resciniti to CFO, Valerie Latimore-Allen to vice president, Dan Flamini to vice president of facilities management and procurement, Jennifer Hayward to vice president of transition management, and Juanita Maiga to director of compliance.

Hunt Names Managing Director

Jeffrey Rutishauser has joined affiliates of Hunt Cos. as a managing director to raise capital for Hunt’s expanding debt and equity platforms.

Based in New York at Hunt Mortgage Group, Rutishauser will spend a portion of his time working for Hunt Investment Management.

“Jeff’s initial focus will be on raising capital for our debt platform,” said James Flynn, senior managing director of Hunt Mortgage Group. “He has an impressive background serving in senior capital markets roles for institutional investment managers and investors, including Berkshire Capital, Palladian Capital, AIG, Northstar, Westbrook, and GE Capital. We look forward to tapping his fundraising expertise and are confident he will play a vital role in broadening Hunt Mortgage Group’s investment base.”

Rutishauser comes to Hunt from Berkshire Capital Group, where he served as a senior managing director. Before that, he was senior managing director at Palladian Capital Advisors, and CEO at Amstar Global Partners.

Pembrook Names Managing Director

Terence F. Baydala has been appointed a managing director of Pembrook Capital Management, a commercial real estate investment manager.

He will be responsible for loan originations, including pricing, structuring, syndication, and loan documentation. He will be based in the firm’s New York office.

Baydala is a 35-year veteran of commercial real estate finance, with substantial transactional experience throughout the capital stack. He recently served as executive vice president, head of structured finance, at Meridian Capital Group.
