He has served as president and CEO since December 2014, leading a team responsible for caring for more than 46,000 seniors through 2,500 employees in 24 states. He has been with National Church Residences since 2000, and, under his leadership, the nonprofit has seen significant growth in all areas, elevating it to a unique national organization that provides homes and services to seniors no matter their age, income, or ability.

“It has been an honor to serve the mission of National Church Residences to improve the quality of life for older adults,” Ricketts said in a statement. “God called me here 22 years ago, and now he’s calling on me to serve my family and my community while I have my health and energy to commit fully. As our next generation of leaders continue our mission, I look forward to their amazing impact yet to come.”

With more than 360 communities, Columbus, Ohio-based National Church Residences is the nation’s largest nonprofit provider of affordable senior housing and the largest manager of service coordinators.

A search will be held for a new executive.

“Our organization has demonstrated remarkable resiliency and leadership in the face of unprecedented challenges,” said Peter Vogel Jr., chair of the National Church Residences board of directors. “Mark is giving us time to work with our strong leadership team to plan a seamless transition. As we conduct our search for Mark’s successor, both internally and nationally, we will continue our laser focus on providing and championing high quality housing and services for our nation’s older adults, and to ensuring a diverse workforce that is loved, valued, and respected.”

Ricketts is only the third president and CEO in the firm’s 60-year history.

“Mark embodies the compassion and professionalism our organization stands for, and leaves a strong team prepared and committed to advancing better lives for seniors, wherever they call home,” Vogel said.
