Over the past 12 years, Dan Wilson has seen his career in the affordable housing industry evolve, from managing the development of multifamily communities to leading his firm’s expansion into new territories.
After graduating from Florida Atlantic University, he joined a large affordable housing developer, which was later acquired by Atlantic Pacific Communities. To date, he has played a key role in the development of over 3,800 units.
“I found my passion for affordable housing at an early age. In my collegiate years, I was interested in two possible career paths—public service and real estate,” says Wilson. “The affordable housing industry was the perfect nexus.”
Now senior vice president at Atlantic Pacific Communities, much of Wilson’s primary focus is on expanding the Florida-based firm’s geographic footprint. “The demand for high-quality affordable housing in the communities we serve is stronger than ever, and we’re doing everything within our power to serve the need,” he says.
Atlantic Pacific Communities is about to break ground on its second affordable housing development in Washington, D.C., and its seventh in Texas, where it is working to help the Houston market recover after Hurricane Harvey’s devastation last year.
Wilson adds he is excited about the future and his continued growth within the industry.
“Our high-quality affordable housing communities are not only a positive addition to any neighborhood, they give our residents a new lease on life that dramatically improves their lives,” he says.
Wilson, 35, is active with the Urban Land Institute as a member of the Florida Product Council Executive Committee and the Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers. He also is an avid supporter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In his spare time, he enjoys playing board games and watching Disney movies with his two daughters.
