Two projects are in the company’s hometown of Washington, D.C., and two are in New York City, a new market for the firm. Looking ahead, Dantes is looking to further expand into Virginia and Maryland.

“We’re very excited,” says managing principal Buwa Binitie. “It’s all much-needed affordable housing. It’s been a passion of mine, and to see it all come to fruition is pretty remarkable.”

His firm recently broke ground on Fortitude at Delta Towers, a 179-unit development for seniors in Ward 5 in the District. Dantes is developing the project in partnership with Delta Housing Corp. of the District of Columbia and Gilbane Development Co.

The new building will preserve 149 units of housing at the adjacent Delta Towers building while creating an additional 30 affordable units in the high-rent neighborhood. Eighteen units will provide permanent supportive housing.

This year, Binitie hopes to start construction on three more projects in the District and Virginia.

Dantes will also continue to secure sites for its pipeline as it works toward surpassing its goal of creating or preserving 1,000 affordable housing units by 2021.
