The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) has awarded more than $31 million in federal low-income housing tax credits to 37 developments as part of its 2020 allocation round. The affordable housing developments will help create or preserve 2,002 apartments for families, seniors, and people with disabilities.

Demand for the housing tax credits was more than twice the supply in the 2020 round, with 88 applications requesting more than $76 million. The award recipients were selected based on OHFA’s goals and policies for its housing tax credit program, including affordability, geography, accessible design, supportive service, and leveraged economic investment.

“Affordable housing development, preservation, and rehabilitation is critically needed in our state, and we are proud to support these efforts by awarding these credits,” said executive director OHFA Sean Thomas.

According to OHFA, nearly half of Ohio’s renters spend 30% or more of their income on rent and utilities, limiting their ability to afford other essential needs, such as health care, food, and transportation.
