Prestwick Development Co. is one of the youngsters on the list.
The firm has been around for a little less than five years, but it has wasted no time in making an impact.
Prestwick climbs to No. 13 on the list after being No. 35 a year ago. The jump is the result of the firm starting 10 new projects with more than 500 units in 2012.
Although the company is only a few years old, the three principals have a combined 50 years of affordable housing experience.“We’re handling the day-to-day activities,” says Jody Tucker, one of the partners. “Our hands touch everything.”
Tucker oversees business development. Ken Blankenship heads up the execution and financial operations, and Darien Lee is in charge of project management.
Prestwick, which owns a dozen affordable housing developments with 708 units, has family and seniors projects in Georgia and South Carolina. It’s working on its first Texas deal and is exploring entering Louisiana and Florida.
The company develops new construction as well as gut rehab projects, including recently transforming an old YMCA in Atlanta into seniors apartments.
Last year, the firm established its own construction company to have more control of the building process. As a result, it is building five of its current projects.
