Construction Begins on Final Phase of Fort Worth Community

Developers have started construction on Columbia Renaissance Square III, the third phase of a major mixed-income housing initiative in southeast Fort Worth, Texas.

This final phase will deliver 100 affordable homes serving households earning below 30% to 80% of the area median income.

Columbia Residential, in partnership with Renaissance Heights Foundation, is developing the project.

Sixteen units will be designated as permanent supportive housing (PSH) for families, a critical initiative made possible through Columbia Residential’s partnership with The Salvation Army. The development includes offices for staff of The Salvation Army of North Texas and a full-time on-site case manager to support PSH families.

Officials announced they have closed on the financing for the $31 million development with several key partners, including the city of Fort Worth, North Texas Community Foundation, Tarrant County, National Equity Fund, and Citi Community Capital.

The latest phase will be adjacent to the 140-unit Renaissance Square Apartments, which was completed in 2017. The second phase, a 120-unit community for seniors, was built in 2020.

Residents will benefit from the extensive resources already available at Renaissance Square, including retail and parks, priority enrollment at Uplift Mighty Preparatory, YMCA membership provided by the community, and on-site amenities such as a pool, a community clubroom, a business center, and open courtyards.

"This $31 million-plus milestone marks a decade of partnership, progress, and shared purpose between Renaissance Heights Foundation, Columbia Residential, Purpose Built Communities, and our committed funders,” said Kenny Mosely Jr., executive director, Renaissance Heights Foundation. “To Columbia Residential, thank you for walking alongside us through every detail. Together, we've now delivered 360 quality apartments across three phases. That's not just progress—it's a promise fulfilled.”

Design and construction team includes architect JHP Architecture & Urban Design, civil engineer Huitt-Zollars, landscape architect Stith Design, general contractor Block Cos., and green building consultant Fox Energy Specialists.

A longtime affordable housing developer and owner, Columbia Residential is on track to manage 10,000 affordable and mixed-income housing units in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas in more than 75 communities by the end of 2025.
