Affordable housing developments are like fingerprints. No two are exactly the same. They are unique in style, location, purpose, residents, and financing.

Here are 36 developments that show the wide range of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families, seniors, and people with special needs. They are in big cities and small towns. Most are new construction. Some involve the preservation of existing housing. And, others involve the adaptive reuse of beloved, historic buildings that were in danger of being lost forever.

These 36 developments have been selected from 153 entries to be finalists in Affordable Housing Finance’s 14th annual Readers’ Choice Awards competition for their innovation and impact. All were completed in 2017 or will be completed this year.

You can read about each project at the links below. AHF magazine and newsletter subscribers can then vote for the winners in 10 categories plus an overall winner. Voting takes place from July 2 to Aug. 3 and is restricted to subscribers as of June 29.

The winners will be announced in September and then honored at AHF Live: The 2018 Affordable Housing Developers Summit, Nov. 12-14, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
