Troubled Chicago Hotel Transforms Into Supportive Housing

A model for turning old SRO hotels in supportive housing, Buffett Place features 51 studio apartments reserved for residents earning no more than 30 percent, 50 percent, and 60 percent of the area median income.

Amenities include a fitness center, a computer lab, community spaces, a conference room, a landscaped courtyard, a reception desk, management offices, a warming kitchen, and storage spaces.

The $15 million project was developed by Brinshore Development, an experienced affordable housing builder, and Thresholds, the largest provider of services for people with mental illness in Illinois.

Each studio apartment contains a kitchenette, a bathroom, a bed, a table, chairs, and a move-in kit with pots, pans, sheets, blankets, pillows, a broom, and other amenities.
