Seniors Finalist: Merritt Crossing

Merritt Crossing provides 70 apartments for low-income and formerly homeless seniors as well as seniors living with HIV/AIDS and mental illness.

Located at the edge of Oakland's Chinatown, the development has transformed an abandoned site near a freeway.

Merritt Crossing provides a full-time multilingual resident services coordinator. The services program focuses on lifelong education, mental and physical health, and community building.

The project is the first multifamily building in California to be recognized as Energy Star rated by the EPA. It is also LEED-Platinum.
