MetroTowns at Parkside, The Linda Joy and Kenneth Jay Pollin Community

Washington, D.C.

MetroTowns at Parkside, The Linda Joy and Kenneth Jay Pollin Community, not only revitalizes the former Parkside Additions public housing development, but it also provides affordable homeownership opportunities in Washington, D.C.

The development, which was a joint venture between Enterprise Homes and the Abe Pollin estate, includes 42 one-for-one replacement public housing units and 83 affordable homeownership units. Residents of the rental component pay 30% of their income for rent, while the average monthly mortgage payment for the for-sale side is estimated at $956.

The development team, in partnership with the District of Columbia's Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Office, negotiated with the National Park Service to acquire part of an overgrown vacant parcel across the street from the former Parkside Additions project. This enabled the team to create a more transformative community and triple the number of units at the former public housing development.

Nationally recognized urban planners and consultants were engaged as part of the design team to create a community that draws on the architectural traditions of Washington, D.C., neighborhoods. Energy-efficient and green features also were built into the design.
