Historic Rehab Finalist: The Studios at Hotel Berry

The Studios at Hotel Berry provides 104 furnished studio apartments for residents earning no more than 30 percent and 45 percent of the area median income.

The 1920s Hotel Berry was once one of the finer places to stay in Sacramento, Calif.

Jamboree Housing Corp. worked to retain historic marquees, signs, and other details. The hotel’s colorful history includes having Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, as a resident for a brief period.

The $26.1 million project is an early user of the low-income housing tax credit exchange program.

All residents have access to a community kitchen, a dining area, meeting rooms, a lounge, a recreation room with a small kitchen, a computer room, and a 24-hour reception desk in the lobby.
