Historic Rehab Finalist: Kelly Cullen Community

A 104-year-old YMCA building has been transformed into affordable housing by Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corp. in San Francisco.

Residents of the development are referred by the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

In addition to providing 172 apartments for formerly homeless individuals and two managers’ units, Kelly Cullen Community features an 11,500-square-foot community health clinic.

The development team met more than 34 guidelines for historic preservation, energy efficiency, and accessibility.

The project is named in honor of Brother Kelly Cullen, former executive director of the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corp.
