Bristol Commons and Lenox Green

Taunton, Mass.

A HOPE VI grant helped the Taunton Housing Authority and Trinity Financial redevelop the dilapidated Fairfax Gardens, a 150-unit public housing development built in 1951, in Taunton, Mass. Bristol Commons features energy-efficient townhouse-style units with front and back yards.

Bristol Commons includes 78 townhomes, 10 duplex units, a community center with HeadStart and a computer center, a community garden and a greenhouse staffed by a master gardener, a playground, and walking paths.

As part of the redevelopment of Fairfax Gardens, Taunton Housing Authority and Trinity Financial also redeveloped a brownfield site downtown. Lenox Green provides another 72 units of affordable housing for seniors and families.

The buildings at Bristol Commons and Lenox Green are built to Passive House standards and meet LEED and Enterprise Green Communities requirements.
