What’s Ahead for the LIHTC?
Now that the October issue is behind us, the editors of Affordable Housing Finance are starting to work on the November/December issue this week. One of the features for this issue is the state-by-state low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) and tax-exempt bond guide. Surveys will be arriving in state housing finance agencies’ inboxes this week, and we think the information they will provide will be invaluable for the readers.
We’ve been doing this guide annually for more than five years now, but I think this year’s coverage will be most relevant for looking ahead at 2010. It will give developers and owners the opportunity to see the latest qualified allocation plan changes as well as news from each state on the Tax Credit Assistance Program and the credit exchange.
Be sure to look for that issue in your mailbox at the end of November and at www.housingfinance.com.
AHF Live: The 2009 Affordable Housing Developers’ Summit also will be another great place to learn valuable information from industry leaders on what’s happening and forecasted for the tax credit market.
Right now I’m working on the finishing touches for the conference, which will be Oct. 26-28 at the Palmer House in Chicago. I had two calls last week with the magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board to discuss the topics for the annual roundtable at AHF Live, and the tax credit was a common theme. We’ll definitely be discussing what can be done to fix the LIHTC program to attract more investors, real-life experiences using TCAP and the credit exchange, the scenario if tax credit pricing stabilizes where it is now, and innovative ways developers are getting their deals to pencil out.
Also, several state housing finance agencies will be on hand at the roundtable and a couple of the sessions to share what’s going on in their states. You won’t want to miss Bill Boerigter of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority; William Pavao of the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee; Sean Thomas of the Ohio Housing Finance Agency; Shelly Tucciarelli of the Illinois Housing Development Authority; Debra Urban of the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency; and Deborah VanAmerongen of the New York State Division of Housing & Community Renewal.
Attendance is reserved exclusively for people who are primarily owners and developers of affordable housing, plus state and local housing finance agency representatives and nonprofit organizations focused on the business of affordable housing. The registration fee is $649.
