President Obama? Don’t get too excited about the fact that a black man who is also a liberal Democrat is now a serious contender to be president of the United States. Sen. Barack Obama's victory in Iowa was a remarkable achievement, and a win this week in New Hampshire would usher in a new era in American politics. But Obama is not a champion for affordable housing—at least, he shows no sign of it yet. His campaign Web site lists his position on 19 issues. You will find homeland security and you will find immigration, but even in this time of crisis in American housing markets, you will see no mention of housing, affordable or otherwise. He’s not alone in ignoring the issue. So whoever you support, don’t send a check without reminding them to think about housing policy now. And happy new year to you all.
