By Donna Kimura
Mercy Housing, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit affordable housing developers, presented three Guardian Angel awards to an individual, corporation, and investor that has made a significant impact on affordable housing nationwide. The awards are presented to leaders whose efforts have supported Mercy Housing in its mission to provide affordable housing and supportive services.
Helen Dunlap, Bank of America, and the National Equity Fund, Inc. (NEF) received the awards, which were made in honor of Mercy Housing’s 25 th anniversary.
Dunlap, former president of the National Low Income Housing Coalition, received the individual award. Over the last three years, she has worked as a housing and community economic consultant to Mercy Housing and most recently served as interim vice president of Strategic Initiatives, Mercy Housing’s consulting and lending arm.
As a longtime sponsor of the organization, Bank of America received the Corporate Guardian Angel award. The bank has invested in or financed more than $23 million in developments for the group.
NEF was presented the investor award. The low-income housing tax credit syndicator has invested $6.4 billion to support 1,650 developments nationwide and has partnered with 693 nonprofit and for-profit developers. NEF has supported several Mercy Housing projects.
