Previous survey results: Transforming Rental Assistance

HousingFinance.com recently asked readers their opinions on the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s transforming rental assistance legislative proposal to allow public housing authorities and other owners of subsidized housing to convert to long-term Sec. 8 assistance through project-based vouchers or a new project-based contract program.

The majority of respondents—65.8%—said they believe the initiative is a good idea and that it will benefit affordable housing residents. “The ability for public housing tenants to move to a location where job prospects are better without losing their rental subsidies is an important change,” noted one respondent.

However, 18.4% of respondents said it is too risky to change at this time, and the remaining 15.8% are still on the fence.
