HUD Single-family Boss Leaves Office
By Andre Shashaty
Oct. 18—No sooner than AFFORDABLE HOUSING FINANCE (AHF) reported that the HUD Inspector General (IG) was looking into contracting decisions for single-family programs in HUD's Office of Housing than the deputy assistant secretary for those programs has disappeared from the HUD organizational chart.
Lily A. Lee had been deputy assistant secretary but had been replaced by
Phillip Murray on an acting basis as of Oct. 17.
A HUD spokesman said “Lee will soon return to the HUD Fresno, Calif., office as her assignment to HUD headquarters has ended.” He declined to provide further information because of “an ongoing investigation.”
AHF's HUD source said Lee was closely associated with HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson.
Meanwhile, HUD sources and media outlets continued to speculate that Jackson was seriously considering resigning as he faced multiple investigations by the IG and the FBI.
