Mixed Motives Drive Online Poll Respondents to Go Green
By Bendix Anderson
Developers have a mix of motives for going green, according to the results of a recent online poll at www.housingfinance.com from the editors of AFFORDABLE HOUSING FINANCE. No one single motive got anywhere near the majority of the votes.
More than a quarter of respondents, 28 percent, said they went green to
“keep up or stay ahead of other developers.” Trailing just behind, a quarter of respondents, 25 percent, said they went green to “create a healthy environment for residents.”
Tied for third place, with 19 percent of the vote each, were the motives “to save money on operating costs” and “to give your project an advantage in the competition for tax credits and other subsidies.” At press time in early March, 36 votes had been cast.
Only 8 percent of respondents said they went green to “reduce their carbon footprint.”
