The number of Fair Housing Act cases filed with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has declined from 10,782 in 2008 to 8,522 in 2012. The Fair Housing Act was created in 1968 after Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination to eliminate housing discrimination in the sale or rental of housing based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, familial status, or disability. HUD celebrated Fair Housing Month in April.

Here are the Top 10 cities where cases were filed last year, according to HUD statistics. Texas has half of the cities on the list with 585 complaints filed in five major cities.
