Monday mix: Pick your favorite buzzword

- HUD is extending its foreclosure moratorium in the hurricane regions by up to 120 days. Details here.

- I missed mentioning the Community Development Technical Assistance grant awards.

- The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies has some reports posted, including "Resident Participation: A Community-Building Strategy in Low-Income Neighborhoods" and "The Case for Rental Housing: A Nonprofit Perspective". It may sound strange that "the case for rental housing" has to be "made," considering the high demand for the stuff -- but really this second article is about the reasons why nonprofit organizations do (or should) decide whether to get into the business of providing affordable rental housing.

- The SF Chron explores the economic pressures surrounding protected tenant status.

- Sec'y Jackson, who was expected at the "State of the Black Union" symposium in Houston, didn't attend after all, and organizers said they received no explanation for his absence.

- And, via the almost comically gloomy HousingPanic weblog, the Global Language Monitor reports on the relative popularity of buzzwords used in the past six months to describe the state of the real estate market. As of Jan. 29, 2006, "Soft Landing" was winning hands down.
