Someone at the Legal Services of Northern California legal aid office has a serious bug about GIS mapping technology and maintains a really interesting links page with free resources on GIS, Google Maps, and sources of socioeconomic statistics usuable with both. A lot to explore here on topics including poverty, crime, environmental conditions, and more. Definitely of interest to folks who study the geography of demand for affordable housing. (Disclosure: I was an intern at a LSNC office in 1993.)
(see links in right-hand column).
