FEMA Outrage

For all of us confused, disappointed and finally angry about the plight of the homeless people of New Orleans, the National Multi Housing Council has finally put some of our feelings into words — at least the feelings of this blogger:

A city in pieces, with block after block of ruined, empty houses: For some New Yorkers, the wreck of New Orleans sounds terribly familiar… Our city lived with devastation too, in the years when more than 350,000 units of housing here were lost to abandonment and neglect. Here are some words of encouragement from a historian of the recovery. (Warning: The newspaper might ask you to sign up before it lets you read this editorial.)
